Around 300,000 to 500,000 single-use plastic shoe covers are disposed of annually in Gothenburg's daycare centers alone. This number would be a lot higher if you include schools, gyms, swimming pools, medical facilities etc.
At reCovers, we're aiming to solve this problem! Committed to sustainability and innovation, our reusable shoe covers are not just a product; they're a symbol of our dedication to the circular economy.
Our mission is to inspire and empower individuals and businesses to rethink their reliance on single-use plastics. By raising awareness of the environmental impact of disposable products and providing a practical alternative with our reusable shoe covers, we make it easier to reduce waste and embrace circular solutions. We are committed to driving a shift in consumption habits and creating a future where sustainability is second nature, and single-use items are no longer the norm.
We envision a world where single-use plastics are a thing of the past—a future where businesses and individuals choose circular solutions, reducing waste and pollution. With cleaner oceans, less plastic, and sustainability embedded at the core of society, reCovers strives to play an active role in this transformation through education, innovation, and practical alternatives.
Our mission to reduce plastic waste and promote sustainable alternatives aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through our work, we contribute to:
SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production: We encourage businesses and individuals to adopt sustainable practices by offering reusable shoe covers made from upcycled materials, reducing single-use plastics, and embracing circularity.
SDG 13: Climate Action: Local production and durable design help minimize transportation emissions and reduce the environmental footprint associated with disposable plastic products.
SDG 14: Life Below Water: Reducing the demand for disposable plastics helps protect marine ecosystems from pollution, safeguarding aquatic life.
SDG 15: Life on Land: By promoting waste reduction and reuse, we support healthier ecosystems and reduce the impact of plastic waste on terrestrial environments.
Through these efforts, reCovers aims to make sustainability practical and accessible, contributing to a future where environmental responsibility is the norm.
We will offer leasing options for businesses, providing a cost-effective and eco-friendly alternative to single-use plastic shoe covers. By leasing reCovers, businesses can reduce waste and minimise their environmental impact.
We believe in extending the lifespan of our products through repair and reuse. If a pair of reCovers gets damaged, we will repair them, ensuring they remain in circulation for as long as possible. This reduces waste and promotes a culture of reuse.
Integrating leasing, repair, and reuse into our business model, to close the loop on the traditional linear economy. We're aiming to create a system where resources are used efficiently, products are kept in circulation, and waste is minimised.
reCovers founders Scott and Björney, were friends and neighbours years before they came up with the idea to create reCovers.
One rainy day at preschool pick-up, the reCovers idea came to life. Looking at the school floors covered in single-use plastic shoe covers, Scott and Björney made a promise to their children that they would fix this problem!
After a few weeks of brainstorming, the vision for reCovers was born: using a circular business model and upcycled materials, a reusable product would be introduced, and would contribute to increased sustainable production and consumption.
